FGCU MBB vs. Nebraska Post-Game Report

The season didn't start as hoped on Friday night. The Eagles flew into Lincoln and were sluggish and slow from the first whistle.

"We definitely got off to a slow start. Offensively and defensively," said Jamail Jones, "Coaches talk about it in practice 'don't get off to a slow start, we'll have to dig ourselves out of a hole'. And we dug ourselves a hole that was too deep."

Jones and Bernard Thompson reached double figures but outside of that FGCU struggled to get anything going and a huge reason for that was costly turnovers.

"We did a pretty good job in the first half of not turning the ball over. But we turned it over six times in the first six minutes of the second half," Dooley said.

Another contributing factor to the Eagles' struggles was their defense, or lack there of. It was a blowout, but the Eagles' 57 points would have been good enough for a win back in 2011 against Nebraska; this time it was the defense.

"We gave up easy baskets...Look at the field goals, look at the shot charts, how many layups we gave up. It was disappointing, very disappointing," Dooley said.

Florida Gulf Coast will have a short turn around as they prepare for Hartford on Tuesday morning.

"There's no choice. We have to look at some of the things we did. We have to look at some of the things we can improve on - make a conscientious effort to do the things we can get better at and prepare for Hartford," Dooley said.
